Covid 19: Regional NSW Lockdown Shuts Down Bowls

The delta strain outbreak in Greater Sydney proved to be the breaking point for the NSW Government and tighter restrictions were placed upon the whole of NSW as a result. Our club kicked us out on the day of the regional lockdown announcement at 4pm to give us the chance of getting home by the 5pm start of the lockdown. And here we remain!

However, having researched why the golfers were allowed to use golf as their allowable exercise, I contacted Nick Hind of Bowls NSW with the news of the deal for golf which was struck with the NSW Minister for Health, Brad Hazard, back in July of this year and asked why bowls could not also earn a similar concession. I couldn’t have been the only one and a week later, that concession was obtained and Bowls NSW have now made recommendations to clubs which would allow a safe form of exercise for bowlers.

It’s great that we are now bowling again in singles roll ups and Steve Stobbs has become an ’email demon’ pushing bowling spots in his booking system so hard that he only makes our Spam folders these days. Well done for organising us all Steve!
