In Memory of our Friend, Greg Morphett

Earlier in 2021, before covid craziness had fully settled in, we took the opportunity to joyfully celebrate the friendship and comradery of one of the most devoted and hardest working Bowls Organisers, Vice Presidents Secretaries and all round good friends within our club. Greg Morphett was a character with high morals and not a bad word to say about anybody. When you walked into the room he greeted you with the warmest smile as though he hadn’t seen you for ages. He once told me that he would do anything for our club as they had welcomed him with open hearts and arms when he moved to the area some years previously. He was true to his word!

Not wanting to let his passing be remembered with sadness Steve Stobbs as the, then, Interim Secretary, conceptualised and organised a memorial day full of fun  which remembered Greg the way he would have wanted to be remembered. Gregs family attended to award the new Greg Morphett Memorial Trophy on the day and I think got an idea of just how highly thought of Greg was by both members of Worrigee Sports Bowls and also Worrigee Sporst Social Bowlers along with bowls members of other clubs who knew him.
